What's reasonable re: Buff fractionals?

I'm debating whether to try to pick up a couple of 1/10 or a 1/4 2008W fractional Buffalo . . . prices at everybody's favorite auction site are all over the place. I'm looking at proofs, but if some think there's more upside potential in the uncir. variety, I'd like to know those thoughts, too.

What do you folks think is a 'reasonable' price range for these now, with an eye to appreciation as a long term hold and not a short term flip?

As in - how much is too much, and how much would you think is the closest anybody's going to come to a good deal these days?

I'm luckier than some to have a 1/2 proof and two 1/4 oz uncirculateds . . . and a severe case of non-buyer's remorse for not having bought more along about the same time, when I paid $450 for the 1/4 and $750 for the half.

Ebay is offering 5% on ebay bucks program for the rest of today, which would help a bit, combined with Cashback, so I figure it's today or not at all, for me to buy.

Have you tried here,

http://www.goldeneaglecoin.com/Gold

or here,

http://www.apmex.com/Category/502/Gold.aspx

two of the more popular sites. These sites will give a gauge for the pricing that's out there.

I can give you at least 5 more, but these are the first ones I think of.

Who's next with more sites.

Ebay sometimes is where you can pick up a bargain, but more often than not. you won't.

You definitely have to watch for the key words, small, copy and miniature on Ebay. Code words for "fake".

Thanks - yeah, I'd checked those places - either not in stock or too much above ebay prices. I'm really cautious with ebay, and so far, I've had very good luck there. I checked gainesvillecoins, too, but no 2008W buffs to be had there.

Here is an alternative for you. (8) 2008 w $5 gold eagles for $2000 BIN so with your discounts 15% comes to $212.50 ea. I don't have the cash at this time or I would have bought them already. Seller has great feedback but not high enough # of sales to be a dealer who has culled these. IMO this is a great long term investment. I don't have the # in front of me but I think about 13k minted. I have some frac Buffalos but am not a buyer at these prices. I would be all over these if I had the cash now. dyodd.

Someone swooped on them pretty quick after I posted. Hope it was someone here.

I was offline for a while - 50 mph winds taking the power on and off here tonight - or else it would have been me that did the swooping. I do like those little 2008-W fractionals.

Thanks for trying - that was a great score for somebody!

Personally, I wouldn't touch them at these prices. Look for the next coin bubble, not the present one.
